AspenSpringsCommunity.com is an on-line newsletter run by residents within the neighbourhood.
We decided to start this community newsletter/web site because although we liked many aspects about our neighbourhood, we were concerned and frustrated with several things that we saw here and in other similar neighbourhoods: a sense of detachment from the community; minor crime such as vandalism and petty theft; littering and dumping in public spaces; and a feeling of ineffectiveness and helplessness by residents who witnessed these problems.
We want to see residents in the neighoubrhood be able to effect change individually and as a group. Furthermore, we hope that this on-line space will allow residents to exchange and obtain information easily, whether it's to get a phone number at Town Hall, find a coupon for a local store, or place an ad to find a babysitter in the neighbourhood.
With this on-line space, we hope that residents will be able to:
> obtain news about their neighbourhood and the larger Bowmanville community;
> find local information and resources, easily and at all times;
> advertise, and find advertisements, locally and easily (instead of on the sides of
mailboxes and on streetlight poles);
> reduce paper waste and litter, by finding and offering information on-line
